Inspiration

I am so sorry for not updating anything lately. I have lost count of how many times I have begun writing a story only to abandon it after two or three pages because I couldn't get into it and I thought it was crap. I have no idea what is going on with me lately. I do not have the desire at the moment to work on The Beauty and the Tragedy, A Slow Burn or The Nicest Thing. I have tried writing new chapters for all three but like I said, I cannot get into any of it. If anyone has any idea as to how I can get my inspiration flowing again, please let me know. I need help desperately. Thank you!

inspiration can be a hard thing to come by, but since i know that you let music dictate a lot in your writing, try listening to Carfax Abbey's version of Cry Little Sister and Nightwish's I Wish I Had An Angel. the first has an atmosphere to it that just ripples down your spine and the second reminds me of The Flower Girl.

I'm so sorry about your lack of inspiration! You are always so full of ideas, since we're lucky enough to get nearly constant updates! My only idea would be to revisit some of your earlier writings! For The Beauty and the Tragedy, you have an entire universe to hopefully get you motivated. And for The Nicest Thing, perhaps you can read the last chapter of The Prettiest Thing! I know that always makes me want to at least READ the sequel! Thanks again for sharing so much time and energy with us!

Whenever I get writer's block, I'm reminded what a friend of mine once told me-- it's not writer's block, it's character block, meaning your characters aren't coming to you naturally as they once did, so maybe reexamining your characters, their motivation, their lives could help. I'm also a big fan of going on walks, throwing a ball around, or just sitting around remembering why I want to be a writer in the first place. Just know that there's no need to force it, it's not like putting a hammer to a nail, just let it come back to you naturally.

don't try to write then - the words will come to you when your ready. Concentrate on other things, when i encounter a block with my writing i just abandon it and go shopping, meet with friends, watch diff movies and read other literature for inspiration. I hope this helps, your a fantastic writer! xoxox

We all know you're inspired by music, so why don't you give some songs a listen? :) I always find that helps me when I'm trying to write things, but everybody's different.

Just take your time, and I'm sure the block will disappear soon enough :)

Hey Kate,

I agree with what everyone here has said so far. You can't force inspiration or the desire itself. Your running low on your creative juices and it happens so let it come back to you naturally. I'll be here waiting.

Well right now I'm listening to The Cardigans, "My Favourite Game" and it remind me of "A Slow Burn" every time I pop it in my CD player. And the bands with annoying voices but I still like them. Circa survive, "Act Appalled" and Tegan and Sara "Walking With a Ghost", "I Know, I Know, I Know". And if I come up with anymore music I'll send them your way. Have a good day!

Here are my musical suggestions:
-I find Sufjan Stevens makes me happy when I feel crappy. It's light and fun, but historical. Good for The Beauty and the Tragedy, b/c River seems very delicate. I like his "Illinois" album.
-The Kills are kinda dark and moody, which seems to be the vibe with The Flower Girl. I love their most recent album "Midnight Boom."
-I'm most looking forward to an update to The Nicest Thing. I love Corey and Kyle's relationship--when will they admit they MUST be together?!? for them, I suggest something kinda off the wall--I'm obsessed with Girl Talk's latest album. you can DL it for free at the link I put in my name.

I am silently urging your muse to return.

Hey Kate,

It's late but I'm still listening to music.
Sugarcult "Pretty Girl"
Le Tigre "TKO" My favorite song that I like to dance to and I'm watching their youtube video while I'm trying to dance like Kathleen, hehe.
Porcelain and The Tramp "Sugar
Cube"
Chevelle "I Get It" This song could go with "The Flower Girl".
I'm still hyper for it being 11 o'clock at night. Good night:)

I'm not a writer, so I can't share tips on what inspires me. I can just say you are missed. I check you blog everyday, multiple times a day, and although I don't always comment and beg you to come back that is exactly what I want to do. I think you are a wonderful writer, bule o crreativity and you have me highly vested in all of your stories. I'm currenltly re-reading The Prize until you post again. Maybe re-read some of you old works. Get a reminder of how great you are, and maybe it will make you want to write again.

Whenever i'm in need of inspiration, i just take a time out. Like i just go 'no, im not doing this anymore' and i just chillax and listen to music or watch a movie, and i find that without even searching, an idea just pops into my head, and its all there, and sometimes i can't even get it all down, its rushes into my head so fast. If you search for it, you'll never find it.
On another note, i was watching Olympic coverage and they play music while showing shots of the days highlights. Last night, they were playing this awesome song, so i googled the lyrics and then found the video on youtube. It was 'Ladies and Gentlemen' by Saliva and it reminded me so strongly of Tyson in The Prize, i could almost see him walking into the ring and fighting. If you get a chance, you should listen to it XD

I come across inspiration in a lot of different ways. Mostly, though, I don't try to force the writing when I only wince at the words. The majority of the time reading a story by another person can have a witty sentence or something that could make me think of something for a character say, eventually bringing about the onset of another increment entirely. Or else music or just observing and talking to my friends. For me, it's mostly an odd word found around me that sparks inspiration.

Whatever it is that you need, I'm sure it'll come soon. Or I'm hoping for it.

try writing exercises maybe?
i know that in my creative writing class we did a journal each day of 200+ words and the starting topic was different every day. sometimes it was as broad as a genre, but other times it was a pre-written paragraph that we had to incorporate into what we were writing.
another was choosing a random book off the shelf, open it to a page, and take the first full sentence that you read - that was the sentence which was supposed to begin the journal entry.
the point wasn't to create anything epic, but to just get the creative juices flowing before we went back to work on projects; which is why it only had to be 200 words. of course, some times the topic just got out of hand and ended up being something much more than you expected.
hope that this helps!!!
